You may recall that I had some moderate drama last fall when my green card expired and I had to get a letter to remain a legal resident.
Then, a couple of months ago, I got called for my next round of biometrics to support my renewal application.
It’s been around 11 months since I submitted my application to remove the restrictions on my green card, so we were excited yet cautious when an envelope arrived from the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Had we been refused, and would we need to submit a new packet with additional evidence of the legitimacy of our relationship?
Nope!
My application was accepted, and the restrictions on my green card have been removed. This means that my green card – originally valid for two years – is now valid for a further ten.
At that time I would need to renew it again for a further ten, however if all goes to plan I should have applied for – and hopefully received – citizenship by that point.
I can apply for naturalization, or citizenship, after three years which is fast approaching. That means I should start studying for the civics test…
